Family Action Network (FAN):
FAN is a non-profit, external organization run by parents, for parents throughout the New Trier Township which curates free open-to-the-public speaking events throughout the academic year. FAN sponsors a variety of educational programs and workshops, nurtures the development of supportive parent networks and serves as a helpful resource on specific parenting issues on topics such as parenting, education, ADHD, depression, anxiety, early childhood, social justice, and much much more.

I) The Privileged Poor: How Elite Colleges are Failing Disadvantaged Students. Getting into college for disadvantaged students is only half the battle. Anthony Abraham Jack, Assistant Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, reveals how and why they struggle and explains what schools can do differently if these students are to thrive. II) Year of the Monkey: An Evening with Patti Smith. Join Patti Smith as she discusses her recent memoir The Year of the Monkey as well as performing a few songs. Smith is a writer, performer, and visual artist. She gained recognition in the 1970s for her revolutionary merging of poetry and rock. She has released twelve albums over the decades, including Horses, which has been hailed as one of the top one hundred albums of all time by Rolling Stone. She is widely considered one the most influential figures in the New York punk rock movement and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
